The Patio Room

It all begins with understanding the spirt of the site. The client asked for a patio. I came up with an outdoor room. A pergola would cover the space and provided framing up to the sky. The West side was supported by a fenestrated wall that also provided privacy from the street. The round support columns framed the view to the Sandy River gorge. The fireplace on the South side blocked the view both to and from the windows of the neighboring home. A Japanese maple woodland was planted behind the fireplace to enhance the privacy as well as provide a sense of woodland enclosure. All that remained to do after completion of the floor, walls and ceiling was for the home owner to embellish the space with personal touches like planter pots, night lighting, music and a small water source.
